Campbell Scott 1940-2004

Caithness Sports Council treasurer, Campbell Scott, has died after a long illness. He passed away in Caithness General Hospital in his home town of Wick on Sunday 7th November.

Campbell was elected treasurer of the Sports Council in 1990 and remained an active member of the committee almost to the end. He also served on the national executive of the Scottish Association of Local Sports Councils for many years and his work for SALSC was recognised last year when he received a special award for his services.

Campbell was a long-serving member of St Fergus Bowling Club in Wick and one of his spells as club president coincided with the late Queen Mother’s visit to the green in 1990 when its centenary was marked by the opening of the new clubhouse.

Born in Hamilton and educated at Hillhead High School in Glasgow and at Craibstone College, Campbell began his working life in farming. After moving to Caithness, where his father was a Church of Scotland minister, he worked at Westerseat Farm before changing careers and starting work as a Health Physics surveyer at Dounreay. He took early retirement in 1992 after undergoing surgery for a heart bypass.

He is survived by his wife Christine, daughter Jennifer and son Andrew – our thoughts are with them at this unhappy time.
