On 14 May at the Sports Council AGM, Roger Saxon resigned his tenure as Chairman after 6 years at the helm. In his speech to the attendees he said:
"It has been an honour to serve Caithness as a councillor since 1999 and as your chairman since 2001, when I was persuaded to take it on for just one year!
I think I leave the sports council in a better position than when I joined.
- We replaced our minibus
- We gained additional commercial sponsorship for coaching from NUKEM
- We set up a website, which has brought us into the on-line world and has been very beneficial in regularising our grant processing and makes things more transparent and accessible. It also allows sportspeople to see what is available in the county and make direct contact with clubs.
- Soon, we will have a database set up for membership, which will make the job of secretary and treasurer easier.
- We also set up a Post Office Box address so that sports clubs can easily make contact if they don’t have email.
I wish you all the best for the future, I have enjoyed my term as chairman. "
Roger passed the mantle over to former Highland Councillor and current Thurso Youth Club representative, Tom Jackson, who was elected by an almost unanimous vote by the members present. We look forward to hearing more from Tom in the very near future.
